  1. Could you address Disney movies? Kids love them, and they’re everywhere, but they are often very sexist. Any suggestions on how to show them to children? Or is it recommended to try to avoid them? Thanks!

    • They are indeed everywhere. It was actually questions about gender in Disney movies that launched our career in gender, way back in a high school film studies class. There are better and worse movies out there, certainly. Additionally, insofar as some of the more sexist movies are products of historical time, they can be the gateway to a conversation about gender with a child. This might not be what you want to do — you might want to put the movie on so you can go do something else and not think about it, for example, and then you would want to steer clear of the less gender-fair films. Let’s write this up in a post — I think a lot of people could use the answer! Look for it in the next week or so!
